HISTORY IN BRIEF

Taliban was born in 1884 at Kampung Karanaan Tambunan Sabah. He was the eldest in a family of three. At young, he worked at Tenom Estates (rubber plantations and others). While working in Tenom, he learned to write romanised writing and jawi with the help of an Indonesian co-worker. He excelled in Jawi as compared to romanise writing.

He joined the police force during The British Chartered Company at the age of 31. He was upgraded to 'sargent' and was posted to Tambunan until his retirment in early 1925. Upon retirement, The British Chartered Company appointed him to the post of 'Native Chief' to look after the administration of Tambunan and Ranau Districts. These two districts were under the administration of Keningau with OKK Gunsanad as the Officer in-Charge.

In 1948, Taliban was honoured with first class title 'Orang Kaya Kaya' (O.K.K). Later he was given 'The British Empire Medal' (B.E.M) for his excellent services.

OKK Taliban retired in 1952 at the age of 68. He died on the 1969 at the age of 85 years old at Kampung Karanaan Tambunan.
